It really was an honour to be trusted with the design of the Belfast Underground Records logo and identity. There's been a record shop at the same premises for over 25 years, starting way back with the original and infamous 'Underground' label that promoted and ran the Hellraiser and Vengeance raves in the early 90's.
Gary Dillon decided he was to reopen a vinyl record (yes young people, a real thing you can touch and hold!) shop and needed a strong visual identity that could be applied to everything from website, shop signage, record label and clothing merchandise.
This was the chosen solution out of a number of different ideas I presented to him. I handled the design and overseen the manufacture and fitting of the shop signage and with the help of some key staff (yes you, Skipper) we managed to turn an empty shell into a fully functional record shop in less than three weeks!!
Exterior shop signage was orange dibond fascia with machine cut 20mm Foamex, layered and fixed to the dibond. The orange colour theme was carried through onto a feature wall behind the counter.
I wish Dilly and the team all the best for the future.
